What a postpartum doula does

A companion for the hardest, sweetest weeks.

A postpartum doula is trained to support the whole family in the weeks after birth — not just the baby. That means helping you recover physically, feeding support (breast, bottle, or both), newborn care education, and simply being a calm, experienced presence in your home.

I come to you. No packing up, no waiting rooms — just support that fits into your space, your schedule, and your family's rhythm.

Services

Support that meets you where you are

Every family's fourth trimester looks different. These are the ways I most often help — mix and match, or ask about something not listed here.

Overnight Support

I take the newborn shift — feedings, soothing, diaper changes — so you can sleep in real, uninterrupted stretches.

Daytime Support

Hands-on baby care during the day so you can shower, nap, eat a warm meal, or just breathe for an hour.

Feeding Support

Judgment-free help with breastfeeding, pumping, bottle-feeding, or combo-feeding — whatever works for your family.

Healing Foods & Snacks

Warm, nourishing foods and snacks prepared for your recovery — the kind of care I'd want for my own daughter.

Sibling Care

Attention and play for your older kids while you rest or bond one-on-one with the new baby — drawing on years of Montessori experience.

Intuitive, Emotional Support

A steady, experienced presence to talk to about the hard, confusing, or overwhelming parts — not just the baby stuff.

About me

Hi, I'm Parveen Ismail

I'm a retired Montessori teacher and mother of three daughters, and now I get to do what I love most: caring for women during one of the most vulnerable, powerful chapters of their lives.

I take care of every family like they're my own daughter — with healing foods and snacks, intuitive care, and decades of experience nurturing children and the grown-ups who raise them. Your baby will be taken care of just as well as you.

Testimonials

What families are saying

A few words from families Parveen has supported.

"The weeks after my daughter was born were harder on my mental health than I expected, and I didn't always have the words for it. Parveen never made me feel like I had to explain myself — she just showed up, sat with me, and made space for the hard days along with the good ones. Having her steady presence in my home got me through a time I still think about with a lot of gratitude."

Suwanee, GA

"I struggled with breastfeeding for the first two weeks and was ready to give up. Parveen sat with me through feeding after feeding, patiently helping us figure out the latch, and never once made me feel like I was failing. My baby and I finally got it — I genuinely give her all the credit."

Feeding support client
Cumming, GA

"There's a warmth Parveen brings into a home that's hard to describe until you've felt it. She has this maternal energy that put my whole family at ease — my husband, my toddler, even our dog. It didn't feel like we hired help. It felt like someone's mom had come to take care of us."

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a postpartum doula and a night nurse?+
A night nurse focuses only on infant care overnight. A postpartum doula supports the whole family — your physical recovery, feeding, emotional adjustment, and newborn care, day or night.
What's actually included in a visit?+
It depends on what your family needs that day: newborn care and soothing, feeding support, light tidying, and warm, healing snacks or meals prepared while I'm there. We build your plan together during the free consult.
Do you offer overnight-only support, or just daytime?+
Both. Many families start with overnight-only visits and add daytime support later, or vice versa — we'll figure out what fits during your consult.
What are the "healing foods and snacks" you prepare?+
Simple, warm, nourishing foods meant to support postpartum recovery — think soups, broths, and easy-to-eat snacks you can grab one-handed while feeding the baby. Let me know about any allergies or preferences and I'll work around them.
Do you have experience with toddlers or older siblings?+
Yes — as a former Montessori teacher and mother of three, I'm very comfortable keeping older siblings engaged and cared for while you focus on the new baby.
Do you support adoptive, surrogate, or NICU families?+
Yes. Postpartum support isn't only for families recovering from birth — if you're adjusting to a new baby through adoption, surrogacy, or after a NICU stay, I'd love to help. Just mention it when you reach out.
How soon should I book?+
Many families reach out during the third trimester to lock in availability, but it's never too late — I take newborn and older-baby clients too.
Do you accept insurance or HSA/FSA?+
You pay my fee directly, and I provide a detailed invoice (a "superbill") you can submit yourself. Most traditional insurance plans don't cover postpartum doula care upfront, though some will partially reimburse it out-of-network — it's worth a quick call to your provider to ask. HSA and FSA accounts are usually the easiest path: the IRS recognizes doula care as a qualified medical expense, and many families are reimbursed in full, sometimes with a letter of medical necessity from their doctor. If your employer offers a benefit like Carrot or Maven, that can often cover my services too — just let me know and I'll provide whatever documentation is needed.
What's your cancellation or rescheduling policy?+
Scheduled visits can be rescheduled with at least 48 hours' notice at no charge. Newborn life is unpredictable, so last-minute changes happen — just reach out as soon as you can and I'll do my best to accommodate you. A deposit may be required to hold overnight bookings, which is non-refundable but can be applied toward a rescheduled visit.
